• Use a public computer. • Change your passwords often. • Avoid visiting shared networks. (Craig’s List, My Space) • Delete information about friend’s addresses. • Delete your web history and information. • Search for your information on Google and the write them and request your information be deleted. • Do not open any attachments from unknown sources or from your abuser, keep your computers’ operating systems and virus definitions updated regularly. • SpyWare can give your abuser the ability to monitor ALL computer use. Discuss the pros and cons of using SpyWare detection programs, since installing such a software program could alert the stalker. • Screen calls with an answering machine and save threatening or harassing phone messages. • Document harassing calls through stalking logs, photographing caller ID, and “call trace” (*57 in most areas). • Contact your phone carrier to learn about your wireless/cell phone’s features and services. You may want to ask if location services have been added to their service plans. • Consider turning a phone off to increase location privacy. • Find a law enforcement officer or a mechanic willing to search your car or belongings for a GPS device. • Trust your instincts and look for patterns in the information your abuser appears to know. Patterns may help you identify possible camera locations. |
