Safety in Your Home
Safety measures you can use include:
 
• Keep all doors and windows locked.

• Change the locks on your doors as soon as possible.

• Buy additional locks and safety devices to secure your windows.

• Install security systems including additional locks, window bars, poles to wedge against doors, an electronic system, etc.

• Discuss a safety plan with your children for when you are not with them.

• Inform neighbors and landlord that your partner no longer lives with you and that they should call the police if they see him/ her near your home.

• Install an outside lighting system that lights up when a person is coming close to your house.

• If you plan to move, consider a second story apartment or a building with locked entrances.

• Plan how to get away if confronted by an abusive partner.

• Identify people you can call in case of emergency.
